People have long had intimate relationships with plants that transcend the everyday use into the realm of the spirit, weaving a rich tapestry of ancient practices and beliefs through centuries of human history. In this workshop led by Three Leaf Farm owner and lifelong green witch Sara Stewart Martinelli, the art of herbalism is intertwined with folklore and mysticism, passed down through generations by wise elders and cunning folk. Within these traditions lies a deep respect for the natural world and the spirits that dwell within it. From mandrake root to mugwort, herbs are imbued with mystical properties and symbolic meanings, used in potions, spells, and rituals to heal, protect, and divine the future.

9:00 am

Forest Bathing with Cat Pantaleo
Join Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, Cat Pantaleo, for a deeply nourishing, exploratory, sensorial feast for the senses. Based on the Japanese practice, of Shinrin-yoku, it is much different than a hike or plant walk.  Unlike a hike, a Forest Bathing Experience destination is inner calm, gratitude and healing through connection with the elements. It is a slow saunter, on and off trail, which consists of facilitated “invitations” that create opportunities to: Slow Down, Revive, Relax, Connect and Play. Unlike a plant walk with dissemination of information about flora and fauna, it is an experience of deep listening; of slowing down to the pace of the natural world so that we may attune ourselves to the quiet voices of the land.  Each experience ends with a sharing of tea made from local plants/trees.

10:00 am

Wicked Weeds: Making Peace with Invasive Plants with Willow Bish
Humans are the number one cause of the spread of non-native plants. Participants of this class will learn how these plants are spread, how they impact native ecosystems, and the different types of non-native plants. While some of these plants are extraordinarily detrimental to habitats they invade, others are not, and knowing the difference can impact how we interact with these plants. Many plants that are considered weeds have medicinal benefits. And while we should be encouraged to seek these plants for these benefits, we still have a responsibility to protect our native ecosystems from negative impacts from non-native plants. Examples of medicinal Intermountain West non-native plant species will be used throughout this class.
